Artist statement:

I consider myself a minimalist, with a simple style in most everything I do. My daily routine includes practicing Tai Chi Chuan and Chinese calligraphy. While sketching, my cat is often my muse. I am more interested in portraying a cat’s poise, cool, independent traits and trying to use the most essential brush strokes to  capture its unique charm.

Painting with sumi ink and Chinese brushes on rice paper is always fascinating and challenging for me! Because once my brush touches paper, there’s no second chance to undo or redo, so each time the texture of the brushstrokes and the saturation of the ink will be different and a surprise to me. By experimenting with different techniques in my ancient cultural practice, l've found joy in developing my own vision of cats.
