“Mother Earth, Father Sky”, photograph, 2025, 14˝x27˝
Statement
Since my college days as an art major, and now in my semi-retirement as a business owner, psychotherapist, and math teacher, I have never stopped searching for art in the world around me. Take this photo, for instance. One afternoon, I stepped out onto the balcony of my condo and, by chance, captured this fleeting moment in the sky. I turned to my friends for help in naming it, and as expected, their suggestions were as varied as their personalities: whimsical ("Let Us Play in the Clouds"), practical ("Clouds"), poetic ("Mother Cover"), quirky ("Marshmallow Sky"), nurturing ("Sheltering Sky"), straightforward ("Downhill Sky"), and spiritual ("As Above, So Below"). But when I took a moment to truly absorb the image, something deeper emerged. I felt as if “Mother Earth and Father Sky” were whispering a sacred message of divinity and protection to me.
