curator’s statement

The 21st Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition continues a proud tradition of gathering to showcase the art of this city. This is a juried show for artists who live or work in Emeryville.

On display you will see a vast cross-section of artistic approaches. This show endeavors to be a celebration of differing directions and artistic mediums. Painting, sculpture, photography, crafts and mixed media works are all featured in this panorama on display. Viewers can marvel at the accomplished techniques and handling evidenced in these works. Traditional visions are present as well as provocative challenging visions. Artists continue to test new vistas and rise to the new issues and changes of today.

Hopefully viewers can appreciate the great effort of the individuals behind the art. Making art involves serious commitment and work against challenging hurdles. And then risking and sharing that art for public scrutiny.

This year, Beth Goldberg, Curator of the Falkirk Cultural Center in San Rafael joined with me in jurying the show. We trudged throughout the city visiting art studios, businesses and homes in looking at considerable art. Sharon Wilchar, Project Coordinator accomplishes with skill, the daunting task of putting together all the myriad details of the show. We are appreciative of all the donors, volunteers, City of Emeryville and the Exhibition Advisory Committee, who work so hard to make this a special Emeryville event. Special thanks go to the artists, who work in producing the show, but whose artistic creations are the spirit and focal point of this presentation.
