Artist Statement

I construct color wheels as an act of self-preservation. Order, balance, and unity are the qualities I want to preserve within me. This is in contrast to the chaos, and destabilization I experience in the outside world. When I sit down with my tools to draw spokes radiating from the circle’s center point, mix hues, and fill the soft-edged triangles in a prescribed order the anxiety + stress dissipate. Because of its layering qualities and ethereal luminance, I work primarily in watercolor. The same symbols present in my early childhood art are now an integral part of my visual language. The effect I hope my art has on the viewer is the same transcendence I feel while making it.
